Blogger's Update!

Hello there! Sorry I've been away for a while but here's an update on what I've been up to!

I've been busy having started college, joining a college theatre production (that's why I have this headshot above!), and even interned as a makeup assistant on a TV Pilot and Film set! It was an exciting experience that I learned a lot from and hope to do more and more in the future as I gain experience and make a name for myself in the industry. Shoutout to my friends Kim, Nikki, and Tonic By the Sea Skincare line for the opportunity! It was fun working with amazing and talented artists on set and other talented people in the entertainment industry.

In the meantime I plan on becoming a certified Hair Stylist and Special Effects Artist in the future while I pursue my Bachelor's in Media Arts Design and of course continue blogging here on Latina Beauty Blog!

I promise in the future I will post more frequently and since Halloween and Day of the Dead/ Dia de Los Muertos is coming up please feel free to send in requests for looks or tutorials!

If you'd like to contact me for other reasons such as bookings and business inquiries you may reach me at my email: analisasmakeup@gmail.com

Indian Wedding Look!

I've been meaning to post this and finally got around to it! So here's a new look for a new occasion!

A good friend of mine recently attended an Indian wedding and asked me to help her get ready for the occasion and of course I agreed! She wore a beautiful light pink sari so we went with some neutral earth tone shades from my Urban Decay Naked 1 & 2 palettes and a natural pink lip color. We went with a very light grey and purple smokey eye that wasn't dark like a traditional smokey eye but still formal and flattering for the occasion. It was a very hot summer day and since she already has naturally lovely skin, I just dusted some Ben Nye powder on her as a touch up. It was fun getting her dolled up since Indian weddings are known to have fabulous makeup and I did my best to live up to such standard! Isn't she lovely? Look at that smile! :)

Mike Wazowski Lip Art!

Hello there! Are you planning to see Monster's University? I am!! When I saw Monster's Inc when I was six years old with my sister I loved it! So in honor of the sequel I did Mike Wazowski lip art! Since my Stitch lip art was a huge success on instagram, reddit, beautylish, pinterest, and among friends on facebook I figured I'd try something that works for my strange little teeth!

For this look I used:
-Mac Paint Pot in 'Soft Orche' as a base
-Coastal Scents 88 Original Eyeshadow Palette
-Rimmel London Soft Kohl White Eyeliner
-Wet N' Wild MegaLast Liquid Eyeliner in Black

Send me requests if you want me to do another character/creature lip art! :)

Meet My Sister Marisa!

Hi everyone! Hope you're all enjoying your summer so far! Part of what is so awesome about summer is wedding season! And speaking of weddings, my sister is attending one today and asked me to do her makeup and to be a model in my portfolio!

So for my sister's look, she went with classic beauty makeup (I promise I'll spice up my blog posts with other looks but hey, its classic!) to go with her red dress.

Here are the products I used on her:

-Olay Moisturizer
-Too Faced Primed and Poreless
-Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse foundation
-Ben Nye concealer & rainbow wheel (to conceal and color correct)
-Estee Lauder blush (I'll look up the name and post it)
-Sorme Bronzer in 'Sunkissed'
-Urban Decay Naked Palette
-Mac Blacktrack Fluidline gel eyeliner
-Maybelline Colossal mascara
-Mac lipliner in 'Brick'
-Mac 'Ruby Woo' lipstick

The great thing about Classic Beauty Makeup/Pin Up/Retro makeup (whatever you prefer to call it) When it's applied well with the right shades of colors for the individual, its so flattering, classy, elegant, beautiful and can be worn anytime of the year for almost any occasion! :)

I'll always be grateful for the love and support my high school community gave me for my love and passion for makeup artistry even though it was a little out of the ordinary, I felt so special and humbled for being known for what I love to do! So thank you to my friends, family, mentors, and classmates for the fun memories and lessons learned over the past four years! i could not have persevered through the rough times and enjoyed the good times without you guys! Finally, good luck to the class of 2013 on all your future endeavors!

For today's post I thought I would do a before and after of just a simple but tasteful look for the occasion. I'll post more detailed photos later so you can see the makeup more clearly and know what products I used! :)

Just Graduated from Makeup School! Officially a Certified & Professional Makeup Artist!!

Hi everyone! I'm sorry I've been M.I.A. the past few months but its all for good reasons-so that I know what I'm talking about when talking about makeup!! I just graduated from Makeup School with my certification and was honored to have 1st place in our class Makeup Photo Shoot with my friend who modeled my Pin Up 1950's Classic beauty makeup! I won an amazing makeup case, some Z palettes, Tonic By the Sea (which is an amazing line of products created by my amazing teacher, I highly recommend them!!) and a few other goodies! I'm so thrilled and happy to have taken on this journey especially at the tail end of my high school career!! I certainly could not have done it without the love and support of my friends, family, teachers, and loved ones who inspired me and pushed me to do my best and keep going! I love you all and can't thank you enough, it really means the world to me! I'm so excited to graduate from High School next weekend and start my makeup career throughout college and beyond! Now I can promise more blog posts with more looks, products, reviews, tutorials, and models!! Yayy! :D

First Professional Photo Shoot Makeup

For my makeup class the students were required to bring in a model for a professional photo shoot for our portfolios and I brought my lovely and beautiful friend, Caelin, who has supported me from the very beginning. For my first photo, I decided to go with the classic beauty makeup of the 1950s 'Pin Up' look since its my favorite look! This is the first of many to add to my portfolio.

"Shewolf" (Amateur Special Effects Makeup)

Hello everyone! Sorry I haven't posted in so long, I've been busy focusing on my makeup class to become a certified Professional Makeup Artist as well as finishing up high school so I'll have two graduations this year!! :D

This is actually a class project from my Film Acting class in which I researched Academy award winning makeup artist, Rick Baker, who was the first to be honored with the award for his amazing work in the movie, "An American Werewolf in London." I was required to give a presentation on his work as well as create a creature in his style. Well, since I'm only trained as a traditional beauty MUA, I improvised using Ben Eye cream foundations, concealers, and Mac Blacktrack Fluidline gel liner instead of more elaborate speciall effects make up. I figured why not give the original a wife, like a shewolf! Obviously its very amateur but it was definitely a fun attempt I might revisit for this style of makeup! :)

Purple-Pink Ombre Lips

One of the biggest current makeup trends is ombre or gradient lips with 2-3 colors. I bought a Wet N' Wild megalast lipstick in 919B 'Vamp It Up' which is a very deep purple. Though I liked the idea of purple lips this color was just too dark for me to feel comfortable wearing so I lightened it with a nice pink lipstick '08' from the Rimmel London Kate Moss line. I first applied the purple as a base and added the pink in the center and blended to get rid of harsh lines.

Cruella de Vil (Disney's 101 Dalmations)

As requested by my sister Marisa, I dressed up as the cruelest of divas, Ms. Cruella de Vil from Disney's "101 Dalmations." This look is based on the Glenn Close realistic interpretation of the character for my sister's upcoming Disney themed party at her law school. Not only did I want to show her how I did this look but I also wanted to share this with all of you fabulous people out there!

For my hair I just used hair spray and baby powder to achieve the white. I wouldn't recommend more then two layers of hairspray and powder since it'll be a pain to wash out. If you can find good temporary hairspray instead I would recommend that more then anything but i just used what I already had at home. For my eyeshadow I used Urban Decay's 'toasted' in the crease to the brow bone and 'naked' eyeshadow on the eyelid. For eyeliner I used Maybelline eye studio gel liner in blackest black to give a small wing and UD's 'hustle' eyeshadow along the lower lash line and extended outward like a mirrored wing or a fake shadow of the top lashes. For the lips I used NYX lip pencil in 'hot red' and Rimmel London's Kate Moss lipstick in '10.'

Beauty Supplies For My Makeup Class!!!

Hi guys, normally I post a look or some form of makeup art but for now I just want to share my excitement for my new makeup haul! I signed up for a 3 month long makeup class to be a certified makeup artist at a local school and I'm super excited to start! I went with my mom to a boutique to pick up as much as many items from the list of required products as possible and got about 70% of what I needed! I even got a student discount and saved $80 thanks to the nice man at the cashier!! Most of it is Ben Nye and are very nice quality! As much as I want to play with it all for my own selfishness I also don't want to tamper with it because its just so pretty and new and will never be the same after that! But for now it'll all reside in my awesome new professional makeup bag that's lightweight, sturdy, and clear so I can see everything I need!

I just want to thank everyone in my life, my friends, family, and fellow makeup lovers and anyone else who's seen my blog and have shown me great support, love, constructive criticism, and wisdom for my crazy passion and hobby that I hope to make a great career of! At least now no matter what happens in life I'll do what I love and will never be technically 'unemployed' ;)

Disney's Stitch from 'Lilo & Stitch' Lip Art!

To celebrate having reached over 1,100 blog views since I've started blogging and over 400 followers on Instagram I decided to do something bigger and bolder then my usual crazy stuff! After seeing a picture of an eye of Stitch very well painted on someone's eyelid I figured it'd be even more fun on the lips and gave it a try! I hope it evens makes some people giggle a little as many did from my panda lip art! I've taken a liking to making funny faces with lip art and hope to do some more fun ones in the future!

As far as the process goes all I did was moisturize my lips with Vaseline half hour prior to this. Then I used my 88 Original Coastal Scents eyeshadow palette with a light blue around the black of the eyes, a medium blue for the entire head, and a darker blue for the nose. Then I added purple for the ears, Wet N' Wild black liquid mega liner for details and outlining and Rimmel London's white eye pencil for the eyes. Hope you guys enjoyed this and request for more!

Winged Liner Tutorial!

For a while now people have asked how I do my winged eyeliner and my answer generally is, "lots and lots of practice and q-tips." Well since its a rather popular trend in makeup these days I figured I'd do a pictorial to make it easier for those addicted to makeup, such as myself with no shame, or for those who are new to it to give this a try with a little less hesitation and fear. I promise it's worth trying otherwise I wouldn't have gone through the effort of making this pictorial I assure you!

This can be done either with liquid or gel liner though I personally find gel to be easier and less messy but, to each their own! The point of these steps is to help make near perfect wings with matching angles since winged liner can be perfect on one eye and not the other. I've even included my favorite gel liner, Maybelline Eyestudio Gel Liner in 'Blackest Black' and my favorite liquid liner by Wet N' Wild in black.

Here's how to do this ladies and gents:

You first align your liquid or gel brush from the outer tip of your nostril to the outer edge of your eye. Depending on how little or dramatic you want the wing to be place the tip of the brush where you want the end of the wing to be then mark it. This mark will help you to connect the edge of the mark to the outer corner of your eye. Then you make a line from the inner corner of your eye to the outer corner above your lashline. Make sure this line across the top of your lashline meets the wing. Then you fill the wing from the tip to the lashline. If you make any mistakes take a q-tip and makeup remover or even lotion to fix it. You can even use concealer and a concealer brush to clean it up as well. Once you accomplish this on one eye you should be able to repeat these steps and get the same results on the other. Hope this has helped you with how to make beautiful and even wings for a nice retro look!

Icy Blue Winged Shadow

Hope everyone has had a great holiday season with friends, family, and maybe even some makeup for Christmas!

This look is inspired by an amazing Mac makeup artist who goes by loreleicakes on Instagram, Tumblr, and YouTube and she did a fabulous winged eyeshadow look that I just had to try! I really recommend looking at her work and it truly is amazing and unique!

What I used was my 88 original Coastal Scents palette and an Elf palette for the blues with a slight ombré effect from lightest in the inner corner of my eye and darkest on the outer corner. I used Blacktrack Fluidline gel liner by Mac and Urban Decay's Blackout eyeshadow on top with an angled brush. For the mascara I used Lancôme Hypnose Drama and for the pink nude lipstick I used Wet N' Wild's Bare It All 902C lipstick.
